Early Grade Reading (EGR)

The second Millennium Alliance award by FICCI and USAID supports CLT to develop Early Grade Reading Resources in regional language using Ed-Tech innovation to improve reading outcomes for children in underserved communities.

          1.21 million students in Karnataka are out of school, 45% belonging to early grades, the bulk of students who drop out between grades 4-8 are those who are unable to read and comprehend what is being taught in the class.
        

The resources will expose children to sounds and sights of words, language through stories, activities that can be practiced both at home and schools.

Curriculum

Our EGR program covers foundational literacy skills through structured concepts designed for early grade learners.

Letter-Sound Knowledge

Building understanding of the relationship between letters and their corresponding sounds to form the foundation of reading.

Word Recognition

Developing the ability to recognize words quickly and accurately, enabling fluent reading and comprehension.

Letter Identification

Teaching children to identify and name letters in the Kannada alphabet, a critical first step in literacy acquisition.

Phonemic Awareness

Training learners to hear, identify, and manipulate individual sounds (phonemes) in spoken words.

Oral Reading Fluency

Practicing reading aloud with speed, accuracy, and proper expression to support comprehension.

Reading Comprehension

Enabling children to understand, interpret, and engage with what they read for deeper learning.
