The
Learning Center - Srujana |
| The
new Creative Learning Center in Jakkur caters to a cluster of 10 villages. “SRUJANA”
is a lilting Sanskrit term that means “Creativity”. |
| |
Learning
Center (A Hub - A Learning Community, Mentoring, Relationships....) |
| The objective of
the center is to create a "Learning space" for each child that allows
her/him to explore and capture her/his potentials. The programs
are designed to create a non-invasive introduction to technology. Technology blends
in with regular activities of the children without alienating them from their
environment. The center is used as a hub to connect the surrounding
smaller villages. By building a Central Resource Center for the teachers from
the schools in these villages, CLT provides various workshops that enhance the
teachers' abilities to think and innovate in the field of education. |
| Where
is it located? |
| The Learning
Center is located on the premises of the Jakkur Village Government School, situated
on the outskirts of Bangalore. Srujana integrates its programs with the school
curriculum. The school has 1-10 standards with approximately 850 children drawn
from 10 neighbouring villages offering only primary school education. They walk
to Jakkur village to continue their schooling. Most of the parents are agriculturists,
day-wage workers, factory workers and construction workers. The children often
start their mornings with house-hold-chores followed by a 2-5 kilometres walk
to school. |
