CLT Food Bank Program

Malnutrition is directly linked to the school dropout rate and poor performances for most of the children attending a government school. CLT introduced the Foodbank Program as one among a suite of solutions to address this concern. When CLT started working with such schools in 1997, it was clear that providing a continuous nutrition program to the students would be essential. What began in one tiny school located in a slum has turned into a major part of CLT's building relationships with local communities.

CLT works closely with health professionals to make the program successful.

CLT’s Food bank programs are self sufficient in functioning (100% local community run kitchens), with minimum supervision once activated.

Key to the success of this program is the Housewives' Group that collects micro contributions and makes the Mid-day Meal program self-sustaining. They visit the schools periodically, interact with the community and thus form a close-knit structure.
