Rooftop rainwater harvesting - A 'Lab 2
Land' project driven by 15 CLT children
(Village Girls of
Jakkur's Government school).
What:
This is the project to bring awareness among the
villagers of Jakkur about the importance
of Rooftop rainwater
harvesting.
Why: Rooftop rainwater harvesting achieves two objectives
1.
Provides potable water for drinking from natural recourse,
reducing the dependency on other sources.
2. Recharging the
ground water table with excess rainwater helps raise the water
table there by assuring
availability of water even in summer
months.
Where: CLT children have adopted this model at the 'Learning
Center'.
When: They did this project between June2003 to Jan2004.
How:
This group of girls who were in 9th standard did a
brain storming session on the
problem faced by their
community, which was water.
They set out to find a solution to this immediate problem. They
joined hands with the
Rainwater Club (www.rainwaterclub.org)
who are the experts and resource people for this project.
They have put up a working model at CLT at the cost of
Rs.28000.00.
They produced 500 leaflets in local language and distributed
among the village masses.
They have shot a film on the process.
Now they have set out to make their school 'Water Literate' and
take the message to the
community, impress upon them to adopt
the technology. In other words they want to scale this project.
They have adopted a simple process of
* .Identifying a community problem/need
*.Assessing its
magnitude by joining hands with a resource person
*.Coming up
with a solution
*.Employing/practicing it at CLT
*.Broadcasting the message
*.Replicating at the community
level.
